Family Mural Mile + Favorite Murals in Austin

September 21, 2020

Who can resist a good photo op? One of my family’s favorite things about living in Austin is all of the unique street art! The week of October 12, we will be running by some of our favorite murals in a virtual one-mile fun run supporting Marathon Kids! Want to join us? We’d love to see your photos!

The Austin Runners Club Daisy 5K presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors has gone virtual this year and includes a Family Mural Mile for just $10. It is such a fun concept, combining a celebration of local murals with doing something active and helping others. It’s a win-win-win!

To participate, all you have to do is sign up, grab your family, and visit your favorite mural(s). Take a photo before or after you run a mile, and be sure to tag @AustinRunnersClub and use the hashtag #familymuralmile. That’s it!

Race registration is $10 (plus a $2 fee). You can sign up here. All proceeds go to Marathon Kids and will get kids moving right here in Austin.

Need some mural inspiration for your run? There are so many to choose from, but here are our top five favorite murals in Austin.

#5 Love From Austin

Love From Austin Mural

Located on the side of Prima Dora at 1912 S. Congress Ave. A mile run up and down Congress sounds like fun, especially is you can follow it up with pancakes from Magnolia Cafe (insert drooling emoji).

#4 Smile! even if you don’t want to

Smile! Mural

Located at 1511 S. Congress Ave. Another spot on South Congress, but this one’s by the Hello Cupcake! food truck. So, do with that what you will.

#3 Greetings From Georgetown Texas/Red Poppy Capital/Gus’s Drug

Greetings From Georgetown Mural

Located at 702 E University Ave, Georgetown. There are so many reasons to love this mural. The bold poppies for starters. They will really “pop” on the ‘gram. (See what I did there?) We love this one because I have a son named Gus. Also, Georgetown is just cool and “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas” would be a super fun place to run a mile.

#2 Greetings From Austin

Located at 1720 S. 1st Street, this mural is set along one of our favorite streets in Austin. After you do your run, make sure you go back along South 1st for some true local Austin shopping and dining.

#1 Sparky Pocket Park

Located at 3701 Grooms St, Austin. This quirky little park is filled with incredible murals and art! This would be a perfect place to jog for a mile, snap some pics, and enjoy a picnic. Sounds like a great weekend outing!
